Cancer
What the research found
Nicotinamide (a form of vitamin B3) has demonstrated strong evidence for reducing the risk of non-melanoma skin cancers (such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) and precancerous actinic keratoses. In the pivotal phase 3 ONTRAC trial of 386 immunocompetent high-risk individuals, oral nicotinamide 500 mg twice daily for 12 months resulted in a 20% relative rate reduction in new BCCs (95% CI, -6% to 39%; P = 0.12), alongside a significant 23% reduction in overall keratinocyte cancers.
